The Complete Novels of Jane Austen
Austen Jane 731 ₪Книга полностью на английском языке.Jane Austen is without question, one of England’s most enduring and skilled novelists. With her wit, social precision, and unerring ability to create some of literature’s most charismatic and believable heroines, she mesmerises her readers as much today as when her novels were first published.Whether it is her sharp, ironic gaze at the Gothic genre invoked by the adventures of Catherine Morland in Northanger Abbey; the diffident and much put-upon Fanny Price struggling to cope with her emotions in Mansfield Park: her delightfully paced comedy of manners and the machinations of the sisters Elinor and Marianne in Sense and Sensibility; the quiet strength of Anne Elliot in Persuasion succeeding in a world designed to subjugate her very existence; and Emma — ‘a heroine whom no one but myself will like’ teased Austen — yet another irresistible character on fire with imagination and foresight. Indeed not unlike her renowned creator.Jane Austen is as sure-footed in her steps through society’s whirlpools of convention and prosaic mores as she is in her sometimes restrained but ever precise and enduring prose.

Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen) Гордость и предубеждение (Джейн Остин) / Книги на английском языке
Austen Jane 188 ₪Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen)No sooner had he made it clear to himself and his friends that she had hardly a good feature in her face, than he began to find it was rendered uncommonly intelligent by the beautiful expression of her dark eyes … ‘When Elizabeth Bennet first meets eligible bachelor Fitzwilliam Darcy, she thinks him arrogant and conceited; he is indifferent to her good looks and lively mind. When she later discovers that Darcy has involved himself in the troubled relationship between his friend Bingley and her beloved sister Jane, she is determined to dislike him more than ever. In the sparkling comedy of manners that follows, Jane Austen shows the folly of judging by first impressions and superbly evokes the friendships, gossip and snobberies of provincial middle-class life.

Sense and Sensibility (HB)
Austen Jane 335 ₪One of England’s greatest writers, Jane Austen was born on 16 December 1775 at Steventon, Hampshire, where she lived the better part of her life. With her only sister, Cassandra, she was schooled briefly by a Mrs Ann Cawley, and rounded out her education through the efforts of her older brothers and her father, an Anglican vicar.Sense and Sensibility began as Elinor and Marianne, Austen’s first full-length novel, which is thought to have been written before 1796. She returned to the work late in 1797, revising it greatly. Published in 1811, when she was 35, Sense and Sensibility was the first of Austen’s novels to appear in English bookstores. It was a well-received work, selling out its print-run in under two years, and was followed by Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816).As with her other novels, Sense and Sensibility concerns the question of suitable romantic partnerships and, ultimately, marriage. However, the author herself never wed, though she was briefly engaged — for a matter of hours — at the age of 26.Austen’s life was not a long one. In the early months of 1816, her health began to fail. Over the course of the next months she managed to revise an old novel, Northanger Abbey, and compose another, Persuasion. However, by mid-March 1817, Austen was no longer able to write. She travelled to Winchester for treatment, and died there on 18 July 1817. Northanger Abbey (1817), Persuasion (1817) and Sanditon (1925), an unfinished novel, were all published posthumously.

Pride and Prejudice
Austen Jane 503 ₪Jane Austen’s novels concern the gentle, rural English middle class existence and conventions of the early 18th-century. The author was born into just such a lifestyle on 16 December 1775 at Steventon, a small village in Hampshire, England. Her father, a vicar who supplemented his salary through farming, provided much of her education. Austen’s talents were encouraged by her parents and siblings, who provided both a receptive and critical audience for her unpublished work.Austen began writing Pride and Prejudice in 1796, under the title First Impressions. Completed the following year, it became a family favourite. However, when her father attempted to place the work with a London publisher, it was rejected. The novel first appeared in print in 1813, after Austen had proven herself something of a commercial success with Sense and Sensibility (1811), her first published novel.Pride and Prejudice is perhaps the most comic of Austen’s novels. It concerns the considerable efforts of a couple, Mr and Mrs Bennet, to achieve suitable marriages for their five daughters. The focal point, however, is the relationship between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy, a man whom she had readily dismissed as an unfeeling aristocrat. The novel proved even more popular than its predecessor, and was followed by Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816). In 1817, Austen was in the midst of composing a new novel, Sanditon (1925), when she was obliged to put down her pen due to ill-health. She died on 18 July 1817. Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, her last completed novel, were published five months later.

Pride and Prejudice / Гордость и предубеждение
Austen Jane 367 ₪«He began to feel the danger of paying Elizabeth too much attention.»Pride and Prejudice , one of the most famous love stories of all time, has also proven itself as a treasured mainstay of the English literary canon. With the arrival of eligible young men in their neighbourhood, the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet and their five daughters are turned inside out and upside down. Pride encounters prejudice, upward-mobility confronts social disdain, and quick-wittedness challenges sagacity. Misconceptions and hasty judgements bring heartache and scandal, but eventually lead to true understanding, self-knowledge, and love. It’s almost impossible to open Pride and Prejudice without feeling the pressure of so many readers having known and loved this novel already. Will you fail the test — or will you love it too? As a story that celebrates more unflinchingly than any of Austen’s other novels the happy meeting-of-true-minds, and one that has attracted the most fans over the centuries, Pride and Prejudice sets up an echo chamber of good feelings in which romantic love and the love of reading amplify each other.

Austen Jane 503 ₪Jane Austen was born on 16 December 1775 at Steventon. a small village in Hampshire, England.
